This is perfect stash busting project! Using only a small amount of yarn and basic crochet stitches you can whip it up in only a few hours. A great addition to your gallery wall or maybe to hang in a child’s room, you can change the colours to fit your decor.

The wonderfully kind team at Rico Yarns asked if I’d like to make something using their yarns. I jumped at the chance to try something I’d never worked with before, if you’ve never worked with Rico yarns before you need to check out their selection (you can find it on most yarn websites).

I love crocheting hats for my boys, they get a new one every year whether they need it or not. They are great ‘stash busters’ and I often use up yarn I already have as you don’t need a lot. This year I used something a bit more special and my children now have super cosy new hats I am really proud of. They are made using gorgeous 100% merino yarn I got from Knitcrate, a monthly subscription box.

A few months ago the lovely people at Sirdar kindly sent me some of their gorgeous Imagination yarn to try out. It is a soft, chunky weight yarn made from 100% acrylic and comes in 8 different colour ways. I had 4 balls of ‘Moonriver’ which is a mixture of blues, pinks, purples and greens, as we are still in the depths of winter here in the UK I decided to make myself a new scarf – I knew that it would be incredibly soft and cosy to wear.

I absolutely love making little crochet stars! They are a quick and easy make and can be made in any weight of yarn. I string mine together to create garlands which I sell in my Etsy shop.

I love working with new yarns, it’s always an exciting feeling when you take off the yarn band and start a new project. Sometimes I find yarn so pretty that it sits on my craft room shelf where I can swoon over it until I know I have found the perfect project.

Winter is coming and its getting pretty chilly here in the UK. It’s a fabulous time of year for us yarn lovers as we get to make all the hats, gloves, scarfs and blankets. It’s also time to think about making Christmas gifts which can be an expensive business!

A while ago I was playing around with granny square variations and I made these pretty heart squares. I made 9 in total and they became the front of a cushion cover that I sold in my Etsy shop.

I recently visited Yarndale (a yarn festival set in the Yorkshire Dales) and purchased this amazing Elisa yarn from WoolyMahoosive – a specialist in extremely chunky yarn and supplies. It is a 200g skein (90 meters), 100% wool and classified as ‘Super Bulky’ calling for a 15-20mm crochet hook.
