I love working with new yarns, it’s always an exciting feeling when you take off the yarn band and start a new project. Sometimes I find yarn so pretty that it sits on my craft room shelf where I can swoon over it until I know I have found the perfect project.
Sirdar recently sent me a wonderful package full of yarn goodies that I had never worked with, included was 2 balls of their Aura yarn which is one of the prettiest yarns I’ve seen in a long time. Aura is a colour mix chunky weight yarn, made of 80% acrylic and 20% wool and comes in 10 gorgeous shades. The shades pictured are Rhythm (top) and Romalie (bottom) and are 100g balls, approximately 138m in length.
I wanted to make something seasonal and so decided to work with the Romalie shade which is made up of gorgeous autumn shades. The yarn is very soft and has a lovely silky feel to it so I used it to make a pair of fingerless gloves (the pattern can be found below). I used a 6mm hook which worked really well and created a great structure, not too loose and not too dense. After playing with a few different designs I settled on a simple pattern and let the colours in the yarn shine. I would definitely recommend this yarn for gloves, scarfs and other knitwear such as cardigans.

Pattern is written in UK terms. Beginning chain always counts as first stitch.

Chain 25.
Row 1 – htr in 3rd chain from the hook, htr across to end, turn (24).
Row 2 – ch2, 1htr in next stitch and across to end, turn.
Row 3 to 5 – repeat row 2
Row 6 – ch2, 1htr in next 6 st’s, ch5, skip next 5 st’s, 1htr in next st and across to end, turn.
Row 7 – ch2, 1htr in next 12 st’s, 5htr in ch5 space, 1htr in next 6 st’s to end, turn.
Row 8 to 17 – repeat row 2.
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing together. Using a darning needle sew the top and bottom of your work together using whip stitch. Sew in ends to finish. The seam should run up the palm of your hand, if it doesn’t simply turn the glove inside out.
